TaTEDO-SESO implements MECS programs in Tanzania
JustGESI co-investigators - TaTEDO-SESO - has been implementing Modern Energy Cooking Services programs for the past eight years, focusing on promoting eCooking solutions, while the British High Commission has been actively supporting climate change and clean cooking initiatives.
Therefore, as a pioneer in promoting clean cooking solutions in Tanzania, TaTEDO-SESO attracted the interest of the British High Commission, leading to several visits by embassy officials to TaTEDO-SESO’s office and several invitations for TaTEDO-SESO to embassy for discussions and recordings on various occasions related to eCooking. One notable event was that of Ambassador Marianne Young in October 2024, where she demonstrated how eCooking appliances work.
To further promote the UK Government’s efforts in supporting clean cooking in Tanzania, the UK Embassy in Dar es Salaam invited and engaged TaTEDO-SESO in a two-day event. On the first day, a video featuring the Ambassador was recorded in December 2024 as part of a Christmas message. The British High Commissioner to Tanzania, Marianne Young, demonstrated the use of an Electric Pressure Cooker and other clean cooking appliances in her own kitchen as she cooked up a delicious Christmas Lunch using entirely clean cookers. TaTEDO-SESO’s clean cookers provide a sustainable and environmentally friendly way of cooking favourite meals – from traditional Tanzanian pilau to a British Roast Chicken.
On the second day, the team participated in discussions with the Commonwealth Youth Platform, focusing on their roles in climate change action and the significant impact of eCooking applications on various climate change initiatives. This engagement was part of many collaborative efforts between TaTEDO-SESO and the UK Embassy in Tanzania. The JustGESI project funder - The UKRI Ayrton Challenge Programme – acknowledges the importance of establishing strong relationships with the UK Embassy in different countries.
